Shi Ming Hu Memorial Student Leadership Award - $500
Shi Ming Hu and Eli Seifman Chinese Studies Scholarship - $500

ONLINE APPLICATION / NOMINATION / RECOMMENDATION FORM AND INFO

1) If nominating a student for an award, or writing a letter of recommendation to accompany a student's application, please fill in as much information about the student as you can.  We will contact the student to gather any missing information. 

2) If you are the applicant, please fill out all fields below except nominating / recommending name.

3) Winners will be required to sign a written statement that the information in their online submission is correct. 

4) If there is more than one deserving student for each award / scholarship, the determining committees may elect to divide the award / scholarship into multiple smaller awards / scholarships.

5) Deadline for submission for Chinese Studies Scholarship is early March (early May for 2003 only).  Deadline for submission for Student Leadership Award is early May.  Please contact Gregory Ruf, Director of Chinese Studies (632-9013) for specific deadline dates.

LEADERSHIP AWARD CRITERIA:
Student must be a graduating senior in good academic standing.  Award will be presented at Leaders in Asian American Organizations Awards Ceremony immediately following the Main Graduation Ceremony and recipient(s) must attend the event.

Applicant, in the space below please include a detailed list of the activities you were involved in and your leadership role(s). 

Please have at least one person write a letter of support that directly refers to the leadership role(s) you describe.

CHINESE STUDY SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA:
Student must be a high achieving (minimum 3.0 GPA) upper division American or international student who has taken Chinese language or culture courses and who intends to continue Chinese studies, though they do not have to major or minor in Asian or Chinese Studies.  Scholarship will be deducted from tuition providing the student maintains full time status.  Scholarship will be presented at one of the University's Awards Ceremonies.

Applicant, in the space below please include a list of the Chinese studies language and / or culture courses you have taken and your official GPA.  Write a short essay (500 words or less) on the following topic, "Why studying the Chinese language and / or China's culture is important for Americans as we enter the 21st century."  Essays will be put online.

Please have at least one person write a letter of support that directly refers to their knowledge of your interest in Chinese Studies.
