It
is with deep sadness
that we write these articles.
This past weekend two members
of the Stony Brook community died.
Both had been involved with getting the
first Indian fraternal organization approved
as a special interest group with the IFSC. SBU
student Chris Samaria
was killed in a
car accident on
Saturday morning. Class of 2002 alumnus Hamal Patel had
a severe
asthma attack
and passed away on Saturday evening.

Below
are links to articles on Chris' accident, what he wrote
about himself on his website when he first came to Stony
Brook, and information on the final viewing and funeral
on Wednesday, 17 August. Hamal has been cremated.
His friends are
putting together information
on Chris and Hamal and the AA E-Zine will send
that out when it is finished. They are also making
plans for a memorial service on campus in September.
Our hearts go out to the
families, friends,
and brothers of Christopher and Hamal.
Chris was an active member
of
SBU's Asian American community.
Members of the Zine met him last year
when he and his brothers joined the other
Asian American groups to cook at
the 5th Annual
[AA]2 Freshmen
Orientation Welcome BBQ, and
he
played an active role
in getting students registered
as
part of VOTE APIA 2004.
Stony Brook lost a good person.
