Club SASA 'Memories 2002' by Kevin QuanOn Saturday April 20th, Stony Brook’s South Asian Students Alliance (formerly Club India) put on this year’s SASA Fashion and Cultural Show. Sold out crowds were treated to a fast moving display packed with South Asian flavor. The talents of show coordinators Teena Francis, Jasleen Kaur, and Sophia Khan were put forth through the tremendous amount of coordination that the show displayed. The show began on a more somber note with the segment titled “In Memory of An Angel.” This segment included an introduction and song by Stony Brook student Amit Tandon in memory of alumni Manika Narula (Class of 2000) and all others who lost their lives during the tragedy of 9/11. Among the remainder of the show, segments included focuses on South Asian Pop-Culture such as the Indian Film Industry (Bollywood), Pakistani and Punjabi music and dance, modern old skool break dancing, and a vast array of cultural and modern South Asian clothing. The night also featured performances supported by the members of Sigma Beta Rho Fraternity and Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity. Among the greatest accomplishments of the show were the obvious large scale coordination among the coordinators of the show and participants who numbered in the dozens. Also, the fashion segments were quite impressive with splendid colors and fabrics and extravagant cultural and modern outfits. The night was quite a success for Club SASA and the Stony Brook community at large and was followed by a after-party at John Harvard’s Brew House. Next up for Club SASA?
