Donations of Clothing and
Supplies
The University, in partnership with the
Urban League of Long Island, is collaborating with UPS to provide free
delivery of the basic supplies needed by shelters and care centers serving
the victims of Katrina. Starting this week, bins will be set up in the
lobbies of the Stony Brook Union and the Student Activities Center.
Additional bins and drop-off points will be announced here over the coming
weeks as information is received.
The following items are needed:
- Blankets and bedding (clean, no holes, no rips)
- Bottled water
- First Aid supplies
- Gently used lightweight clothing (kids and adults; clean,
no holes, no rips)
- New underwear and new
socks (kids and adults)
- School supplies
- Women's hygiene products
- Deodorant, soap, shampoo, razors
- Non-perishable food items (no glass, please)
- Juice packs
- Dry milk
- Baby bottles
- Diapers
- Baby formula
- Coloring books and crayons
Volunteering
Student, faculty, and staff volunteers are
needed to help sort, box and label donations every Friday for pickup by UPS.
Students interested in volunteering should sign up in Room 218 of the Student
Activities Center or in the Office of the Dean of Students (SAC 222). Faculty
