Making Asian American Campus
TV Pilots for SBU TV
IT'S SO GOOD WE SAID TENTATIVELY!!! After staying up all night doing final taping & editing
before it had to be given to SBU TV by 9am Friday,
it
turned out that the Zine software did not work seamlessly with
SBU TV's. After fruitless attempts,
the tapes are being converted and showing delayed.

How often do you see Asian American faces on American TV? In
the 13 years of MTV's Real World series, there has never once been an Asian
male. Asian faces are so unknown to non-Asian American audiences that
Memoirs of a Geisha could have Chinese playing Japanese and few knew the
difference. Don't all Asians look the same?
Well, even if MTV ignores us, we shouldn't ignore ourselves. In the Student
Union basement is a great resource - a recording studio and everything needed
to make a TV show - SBU TV, funded by your student activity fee via USG. So we
decided to take advantage of what is there and we would like anyone who is
interested to join us.
First public meeting is Thursday, 2 Feb, at 7pm in
Union 079, next door to SBU TV in the AA E-Zine office. UPDATE 1:
1) Female anchor found. Looking for male anchor. FOUND Anne Beryl Corotan aka
Cling & Steve Raga
2) First restaurant review done - One reviewer coined a new word when he
melded two together in rapid fire speech - "Sh-tcut"
Here is the concept and your great ideas can be added in too:
1) One hour monthly event & news show, tied together with two co-anchors (one
male, one female, each different Asian ethnicity), featuring such segments as
a) Interviews on serious or controversial issues; for example, what is it like
to be a foreign TA whose English is ridiculed.
b) Student-in-the-street questions and polls - both serious and humorous.
c) Interviews with famous or trying to be famous Asian Americans.
d) Humorous cooking demo - this month will be Korean pancakes.
e) Entertainment news and performances
f) Chinese, Japanese, and Korean movie and soap opera reviews and critiques
g) ?
h) Update: Restaurant reviews
i) Update: Club reviews
2) Followed by a few hours of the Zine's existing videos including Asian
Nights (1997-2006), China Nights (1997-2005), PUSOFests (1997-2005), Club
India's / SASA's Annual Show (1997-2004), Diwali 2005, Korean Nights
(2002-2005), and lots more.
UPDATE 2: The shows in the 7-10pm slot will be dependent on who
volunteers to edit and what they are interested in. So if you are a member of
CASB and want the old China Night's played - then come and help!
3) After the semester we will evaluate whether to make the show longer, do it
weekly, whatever. Update X: It will never be done weekly. Wow, this is
work!
Come and join us!
