In the SAC Auditorium the Bengalis United club held their first
cultural show, Amateur Talent Night. The decoration of the
auditorium was like no other cultural show I have seen. The stage
was adorned with beautiful cloths and an elaborate balloon
arch. Round tables were set around the room with candles, cloth rose
petals, and sparkling sequins and spangles. Of course, that was only
the beginning of the show.
It was clear that the Bengalis have great
pride for their ethnicity, and it was expressed in their various
presentations. They had a skit showing historical events that
exhibited the struggles their country had gone through, and sang
their national anthem at which everyone immediately rose up in
respect. It was certainly not all serious however, especially with
their comedic hosts, their planned mess-up of a song, and their skit
in which guys were clearly playing girl parts.
In addition to all this, they had many
talented singers and dancers who performed traditional as well as
modern pieces. The performances were followed with a fashion showing
various modern styles of Bengali dress. The show ended with the
President, Sharobi Chowdhury, thanking everyone who worked hard to
put the event together. It was a night where everyone was able to
embrace culture, have good laughs, and enjoy one another’s efforts.
The show was followed by a authentic Indian
dinner from Curry Club that was very delicious. Those who had the
opportunity to attend were very blessed especially since they paid a
mere $5 for both a great show and a superb dinner.
This is one event you will not want to miss next year!
A video of the event will be in the next issue and a photo album has
